GUEST SPEAKER

DR. CHRISTOPHER THORNBERG
FOUNDER, BEACON ECONOMICS

Christopher Thornberg founded Beacon Economics LLC in 2006. Under his leadership the firm has become one of the most respected research organizations in California serving public and private sector clients across the United States. In 2015, Dr. Thornberg also became Director of the UC Riverside School of Business Center for Economic Forecasting and Development and an Adjunct Professor at the School.

An expert in economic and revenue forecasting, regional economics, economic policy, and labor and real estate markets, Dr. Thornberg has consulted for private industry, cities, counties, and public agencies. He became nationally known for forecasting the subprime mortgage market crash that began in 2007, and was one of the few economists on record to predict the global economic recession that followed. Dr. Thornberg holds a Ph.D in Business Economics from The Anderson School at UCLA, and a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

GUEST SPEAKER

ROXANE GOOGIN
CHIEF FUTURIST, GROUP 11

Roxane Googin is an authority on macroeconomic technology trends. In August 2020 she stepped into the role of Chief Futurist of Group 11, one of Silicon Valley’s most sought after FinTech investors.

Prior to joining Group 11 Roxane was editor of the High Tech Observer, a long-running invite-only publication read by institutional portfolio managers focused on the technology sector.

Roxane’s research focuses on inter-modal competition between historically disparate economic models forced into direct competition by technological change, as these are the most disruptive and meaningful to multi-billion dollar portfolios over time.

Her bold predictions included the smooth continuation of the “Goldilocks Economy” through the 1990s, the internet bubble demise in September 2000, and the dawn of a new age driven by the mobile cloud in May 2002, as outlined in her much acclaimed note “Six Simultaneous Equations.” In 2016 she introduced the Street to the concept of AI and GPU computing.

Roxane Googin has a BS-EE from the University of Tennessee, and an MBA from the University of Virginia. In addition to engineering experience in development and manufacturing, Roxane has experienced finance from the cradle to the grave: from venture capital, through equity analysis, to term and finally to asset-based lending. She uses her broad experience to envision the disruptions that are bound to come our way.
